Title: Potential Scripts From True Crimes
Post by: ProfessorBoh on June 06, 2014, 09:54 AM
Many of Classic CSI's stories were dramatizations of actual crimes, like I-15 Murders and Anatomy of a Lye. So let's have some fun and pull true stories from today's headlines that would have enough sex, gore and weirdness to make it as a CSI script. Here's one about Black Madam and the "parties" she used to throw.

This true story has lots of potential (Cats in the Cradle? was that the episode with the girls?)--

s-p - Right - In Cats in the Cradle the girl stabbed the old lady because she wouldn't give them a cat.

There's been some controversy about characters the kids see in games on TV these days.  Unfortunately those two 12 year olds apparently have the delusion this 'slender man' or whatever he's called, is real.  A moral sure can be drawn from this sort of thing.

This is a local story of a politician 'gone bad' as they say! Crawled under a house, drank antifreeze, died and found about a month later!

Classic CSI was similar to Hitchcock in that it used the murder as the "macguffin". A macguffin can be anything, secret plans, theft, kidnapping, that's used as a device for the actors to interact. That being said, with a typical Classic CSI sick mind I think they could do a lot with this as the macguffin.

I spend way too much time on the Internet. But I saw this and though the guy didn't die, he could have. It has all the elements of a CSI plot: strippers, a dumbass for a corpse, and a weird way to die.

What on earth could have been their object in going in en deshabille.  Could they have honestly believed they wouldn't leave any clues to their identities that way?  I can just see Nick and Sara solving this one.

Title: Re: Potential Scripts From True Crimes
Post by: curious jorja on July 24, 2014, 02:06 PM
I would imagine they would have to do a lot of analysis of the bodies for trace, etc.  Can you just picture Sara's face as they are going through that process??? ;D  Of course, now they would probably make the men do that, but do you remember in one of the very first episodes Nick had to examine a girl's breasts for discoloration when she put stuff on her breasts to make a guy fall asleep so she could rob him? They were a little riskier in those days!

Title: Re: Potential Scripts From True Crimes

I thought of the one where Sara had to examine the autograph on the Frat pledge (Pledging Mr Johnson).  She was quite interested and Nick was the one who didn't want to look.

Title: Re: Potential Scripts From True Crimes

Or Sara and Greg. Either way would work on Classic CSI. There would be a lot of teasing banter between either coupling.

I forgot about this one!  That was really a funny one!  The men always tended to get squeamish when men were involved...remember Warrick when Doc was going to do some procedure on the male anatomy of the dead Happy Morales? Classic!  And then there was Super Dave complaining that he always had to look at the plumbing to see whether the vic was male or female.

Here's another one that would make a nice B or C story if they were still doing B and C stories http://www.philly.com/philly/news/20140730_ap_c110d57c57a44160a3e50253342c69a5.html

As for Nick and Warrick deferring to Sara and Catherine, that makes for a real interesting discussion about the differences between men and women.

That could meld nicely with a spate of rooftop sex that's been going on here in Newark, home of UD.  Remember Archie saying something about people not valuing privacy anymore.

As for discussing men and women, what's to say but viva la difference.

It also reminded me of the two Laotian (?) brothers in Room Service. It's another example of how Classic CSI used stories that could happen in real life to tell a thought provoking story. Illegal immigration or immigrants used as a slave labor are issues for which there are no easy answers. Here there are two sides, one brother working hard regardless of circumstances and the other enthralled with new found glitz. Neither is right, yet neither is wrong.

Classic CSI ambiguity is a thing of beauty.

Was that the one about the reality cooking show? I might have seen part of that one.

Fanatic, help me out. I know Alfred Hitchcock did a show where the murder weapon was a frozen leg of lamb that was later cooked eaten. Did he also do one where the twist at the end was serving up the corpse as holiday dinner? I seem to remember something like that, but it's not coming to me.

The frozen leg of lamb was served to the detectives on the case.  The woman murdered her husband and the detectives ate the evidence.  Beautiful Hitchcock ironic twist.  I don't remember the holiday dinner, but remember Fried Green Tomatoes?  They also served the corpse in a barbecue to the detectives on the case!

There have been a lot of problems with the forensic labs here in DE lately.  Just recently bones were discovered in two bags in a freezer - the lab is being cleared out and a new forensic division is being established.  They do know the identity of these particular bones but what if this had been a murder victim left there because the killer thought the bags would just be disposed of without further investigation.  Basis of a good case for CSI.

This was a GREAT movie!!! Totally low budget but so much fun to watch! Speaking of meals,  another favorite of mine is Dinner With Andre.  An incredible adventure with two minds that really never meet, but they spend the night conversing about things that would never cross MY mind!  One has his feet on the ground and the other is flying sky high!!! A really great movie.

I've seen Eating Raoul.  ;D

The different in original CSi and current CSI is the ability of writers to take a true story and turn it into an entertaining Vegas story. And, somewhat like they are trying to do with NCIS-New Orleans, Vegas, the city was part of the story. We don't see that now.

Bringing Catherine into it is very appropriate.  Remember in Inside the Box Rampart was the name of one of Sam's casino's and that name on the scissors helped figure out the solution to the robbery - and that Sam was Catherine's father.

And didn't they implode it in Built To Kill Part 1? Since they're recycling stories they may as well go back to Pilot with the jinxed jackpot. Only this time Catherine is in danger when Fern and Morgraine discover that the slot machine was fixed to not pay out.

"Club Paradise regularly was the focus of unsettling reports of illicit activity. Five years ago, a tourist from Kansas City claimed he blacked out during an early-morning visit to the club and was stunned to find $29,500 in charges, including a $4,000 bar tab and more than $25,000 “unexplained services” from a sextet of exotic dancers."

It's pretty amazing how often we read something in the papers these days that follows a script we've seen on CSI - the early ones; not those showing for several seasons.  Right now the Prof seems to be the only one posting them but if any of the rest of you see anything like that, mention them here.  Shows how true to life CSI used to be.

How about a story similar to JonBenet Ramsay (may she rest in peace) and they actually SOLVE the crime.

or

There was actually a nasty crime scene years ago across town in an apartment complex where a group of Hispanic men were brutally tortured and murdered and the bodies were arranged in an unusual way.  The County Sheriff's office said that the crime scene was clean as a whistle.  Somehow they managed to track down the bad guys.  When we bring up this event in casual conversation, we all get the willies.

or

come up with something along the lines of that incredibly elegant story of "A Bullet Runs Through It" and beef it up.

You all remember To Tags - Warrick and Greg's case of the woman pushed over the cliff by her husband.  Story presently in the news about a woman who supposedly slipped and fell off a cliff; her husband had taken out a $4.5mil life insurance policy on her unknown to her, visited the site several times and marked an X on a map which is where she fell.  Sure sounds familiar.  This isn't potential - this is right now.

While CSI did episodes of child kidnappings and murders, I still wish they had taken on a season arc of the JonBennet Ramsey story. She and I are almost the same age and that's the first real-life terrifying kidnapping/murder of a child that I was aware of--and I always thought someone the family knew did it. We have only their word that no one was in the house but the parents and brother.

And if you missed it, the 2 part one on CBS continues tonight. It was really good last night with well-trained forensic experts going over evidence.

Makes you wonder about people.  Don't remember whether I mentioned it in this subject - saw a Storage Wars a while ago where some buyers of a storage unit took something to be appraised and the people doing the appraising were furries.  I used to think it was something the writers of the script had made up.
This one is a shame for the young girl and the friend who did the killing.  Ruined lives.  Also shows people are too quick to grab a gun these days.
